update 6/23/23

accidentally making the /latest page make it look like this site has an arknights fandom that's not just me. anyway the project to port my fics to dreamwidth is complete so now everything is properly mirrored at veryroundbirdfics which also now has a cool custom layout

looking forward to getting back to being a chuubo's player in a few weeks although i've been super enjoying wanderhome and feel like i've been flexing interesting different muscles since the game explicitly removes violence from the stage. adding more tools to my game toolbox. also i think i'm starting to feel like i'm hitting my stride with running chuubo's which is nice!

herb garden's coming along; i have a shitton of cilantro and mint already and i know the basil will pop off because basil just does that. the pepper plant pigeon mostly ate is finally getting new leaves, too (along with the fig plant that accidentally got dried out, which now has a fourth leaf coming)

bought a new flagpole for the house and a progress pride and lesbian pride flag pair which will not get here for pride month but WILL get here for 4th of july, so that we can stand for the flag etc

Nice to see another gardening fan. I do a fair amount with herbs. Let's see, I've got a bunch of different mints, sage, basil, borage, cilantro, parsley, rosemary, bergamot, and garlic chives. I like to eat the flowers off them.

How is Wanderhome/what does it play like? I've been feeling the DM itch recently and my dnd group is wrapping up the current campaign - I'm probably going to try and get an Apocalypse World campaign going, but I kind of want to run some one- or two-shots in different systems first

Oh nice! I'd love to get some bergamot, too, although if I get more ambitions about herbs I'm going to have to expand to another one of the garden beds, ahaha. It's also just nice to go out there and smell everything, and I'm sure bergamot's good for that!

I've liked Wanderhome a lot, although it's definitely something where I've had to additionally wrap my head around the playstyle, since everyone is kind of taking turns GMing/playing additional characters/proposing new ideas, so you have to be thinking of the bigger picture and also being ready to come up with new stuff. (it's a belonging outside belonging game, so compare dream askew, which is sort of apocalypse world by avery alder)

The other thing is that for our group we are always looking for ways to introduce Fucked Up and Evil Vibes because that's who we are as people and so we tend to pull in more of the liminal/desolate natures and adding a lot of fish demons and ghosts. 🐟

Bergamot smells nice. I've got what looks like a lavender one blooming in the wildflower garden, but its flowers sure don't taste like my herb garden bergamot flowers. They were so hot and peppery it was almost like radish or something. :P (I like eating herb flowers.) Might be a wild bergamot thing.

My favorite petting herb for fragrance is curry (which isn't the same as curry powder) but I also have really nice lemon thyme this year.

Hah I also still haven't played Dream Askew - as with everything else in life, the problem with ttrpgs is that there are so many things that are interesting! It would be so much easier (and cheaper) if only a few things were interesting!

Honestly one of the things that put me off Wanderhome is how nice everything seemed haha, so this is probably all the convincing I need to buy it - thanks!
